Cub Camp - May 2026
Details
Event information
Hi,
The plan is to meet up at the Smith St. hall at 8am on Saturday the 23rd and then convoy out to Tom’s cabin from there. We’ll have lunch and dinner out there on Saturday and then breakfast and lunch on the Sunday. We’ll likely head home aound 12pm.
The cost of the camp will be $20 each and that will cover all food.
No-one needs to bring any tents for this camp because the Cubs will all fit in the big tents we have and parents can sleep in the barn.
Each cub should bring:
- Pillow
- Warm sleeping bag
- Stretcher and/or camping mattress.
- Wide-brimmed hat
- Water bottle
- Walking shoes and gumboots if you have them
- Warm clothes for the night and morning
- Pyjamas
- Clothes for Sunday
- Toothpaste/brush
- Torch
- Mess kit (plate, bowl, mug, knife, fork, spoon, tea towel)
More details about Tom’s cabin and its location are below.
I’ll create an Event on the Scouts website where you’ll be able to register and add dietary requirements etc. I’ll send that our shortly.
Cheers,
Mike.

Hi all,
just a bit of info about the place where we are camping next weekend.
It's a 5 acre bushland block, mostly forested, but with a couple of small grassy areas for camping. it's got a large barn set up for living in, with a fireplace and kitchen There are about 8 beds in it, plus a few more in the nearby other building. power for lighting. no phone reception but we can turn on the starlink for some wifi.
the beds are more rustic than 5 star, but most of them are pretty comfortable. No shower, but you can swim in the creek, and just a drop toilet.

cubs will be camping, adults are free to stay indoors or camp as well if they prefer.
We'll have a bonfire, play games, dig holes, maybe swim, go for walks in the adjacent state forest, do some bush skills stuff, maybe some archery.
The address is 1829 Watagan creek Rd. There are limited spots to park, so we'll try to be efficient with the number of cars that come up.
There are 2 ways to get there, worth looking on a map. Via Laguna and the hunter valley, which takes about 2 hours, and via Cooranbong / The pines Campground / Wollombi Forest Rd, which takes more like 90 minutes but is pretty rough. I get through ok in a 2wd van with good clearance, but it's a 4wd road really.

The final driveway and creek crossing are ok with a 2wd small car, but it is a bit bumpy. The turnoff on Watagan creek road is marked by the sign 1831

because there is no reception for google maps, and because you may not be able to call us, it's worth downloading the map beforehand and using satellite nav to know where you are. From Laguna it's actually very straightforward, but less fun.
